Cattle system - Log of New System Features.

This is a list of additions that have been made to the system over time, so you can see what has been added since your last software update.

15th December 2011.

Version 12 of the system is now available for Windows 7 users. This version is very similar to Version 10, but uses Windows 7 features within the computer. It can be run on Windows XP, but only if all available Windows Updates have been run on the computer.

Version 12 should be installed in the same hard drive folder as your current Version 10 (default is C:\CattleRecords_PG). Once installed, Version 10 will still be available to you, and there will be two desktop icons. You can remove the version 10 icon once the new system is fully operational.

13th December 2011   Version 10.19.40

Speeded up record selection process for reports.

15th November 2011   Version 10.19.31

When using the cattle Data Import feature, you can specify data columns that hold financial transaction data for the cattle being imported. For example, you may have cattle dates and weights etc, but you may have data columns that hold (for example) purchase price, freight cost, induction costs, and so forth.

12th Sept 2011    Version 10.19.12

  • A new report has been added to the Cattle system named "Costs/Income by animal". This report allows the user to specify what expenses and income to show by column, and the ability to combine items. eg show Purchase Price plus Freight combined in report column 1.

  • The Feed Commodities System will now recognise the later version of the Digi-star Datakey system that uses a standard USB memory stick to pass data back and forth between feeding trucks.

1st May 2011      Version 10.16.24

Cattle System:

  • A new option on the Cattle processing screen causes a list of drugs administered to a beast to be automatically shown when the animal's record is shown on the screen. This can be useful if a decision has to be made on a possible drug administration.

  • Animals can be selected for a report depending on whether they have been sick or not. There is s new tick box available on the record selection screen for this.

Feed System:

  • New Truck Loading variation reports (McMeniman version). These reports analyse the loading of feed trucks compared with the required commodity component percentages, and calculates coefficients of variation as well as absolute variations.

  • Pen file listing for recording bunks. This report shows very basic information (pen, head, and ration) about the pens in the feedlot, with a blank column for recording the bunk reading.

SQL Server databases:

There is now an option available to convert the M/S Access databases to SQL Server databases. You must have a recent version of SQL Server running on your system to use this, including SQL Server Browser. You will probably also need local IT support to set up such things as database administrators, databases users, security settings, and so forth. It is also advisable to install SQL Server Management Studio to assist in database maintenance.

(Note: You can attempt this conversion by clicking on Setup at the top of the Main Menu screen. Existing M/S Access databases are not changed, and you can revert to these if the conversion is not successful).

23rd December 2010    Version 10.15.8

Add a new drop down list to the Purchase Lots screen, allowing to select a Lot Number by Vendor.

2nd December 2010     Version 10.14.48

Added the ability to import Sale Price $/Head or Sale Price $/Kg (live) when importing cattle data. The Sale Price $/Kg figure is multiplied by the Departure Weight of the animal to calculate its full value.

28th September 2010     Version 10.14.34

The Lot Close Out report now shows analytical information for any cattle in the Lot that spent time in the paddock before entering the feedlot.

17th September 2010

The Cattle Fattening Records software can now run on Windows 7 64 bit.

9th June 2010          Version 10.12.38

Added a new report to the Reports & Data Import/Export screen, under Reports for Feedlots, that will list all sickness events for the animals selected and a list of drugs given for the sickness.

30th April 2010         Version 10.11.39

Feed Commodities system:

Users are now able to delete a Feed truck load entered into the system that has already been processed against cattle (permission was denied in the past). Adjustments will be made to the respective cattle feeding records next time feed is applied to cattle. This will prove useful if a feed truck load has been accidentally entered into the system twice.

22nd January 2010      Version 10.10.41

Cattle Processing screen:

  • You can now cause draft gates (or virtual draft gates) to operate on Lot Number. This will be useful if you wish to draft off cattle belonging to one or more Lots.

  • The Vendor of the cattle as recorded in the Purchase Lots file will now display on the processing screen.

13th January 2010      Version 10.10.31

Fixed a bug that is occurring in some computer environments when performing the Cattle Archiving process.
